Mosaic (noun) (mo-za-ik)
“...a pattern or picture made from many small colored pieces of stone , glass etc. “
“ ...something that consists of a combination of different things or people (From Macmillian’s Dictionary)
Mosaic Art is by definition, the gathering and organization of multiples, whose numbers rely on each other for strength and context. This exhibit presents the work of a group of diverse and talented artists who identify themselves as “Mosaic” artists. All are members of the recently formed Mosaic Society of Philadelphia (MSoP), whose mission statement proclaims:
To enthusiastically promote awareness, appreciation and practice of mosaic art in the Philadelphia area through education and community outreach.
Although the artwork displayed here varies in material usage, subject imagery, format and scale, MSoP members find common ground in their love of experimentation, openness to new and novel approaches to Art making and the enjoyment of fellowship that sharing such information begets.
